This historic hip-roof structure was built in 1925 by
Frank Selting on the family farm near Raeville, Nebraska.
The barn was built with some of the lumber from the original barn built
by Frank’s farther Barney Selting, in the late 1800’s, which was the home of
the family while their house was being built.
Frank was born in the original barn in 1899.
The new barn was home to many neighborhood barn dances in the late
1920’s. Frank called the square
dances and many present day area residents have memories of these fun times.
In May 2000, the barn was donated to the Rae Valley
Heritage Association by the daughter of Frank Selting, Joyce Selting Temme and
her family. The barn was moved to
the side of the Association’s annual show, which is 2 miles west of
Petersburg. The barn is now used as
a museum and was home to its first modern day barn dance at last year’s show
(Aug. 2000).
