Our barn does not house a long interesting history.
It was built on the Sloan farm, east of Orchard in the 1940’s.
It had a normal “barn life”. The haymow was filled with hay for the milk cows it housed in
the lower area.
The barn received a new life in 1991, when it was moved
2-1/2 miles east to its permanent location, 2 miles west and 2 miles north of
Royal, NE, on the road leading to the Ashfall Fossil Beds.
It is now Green Gables of Pleasant Valley Restaurant,
owned and operated by Denise Hartigan and Lois Dempster.
The bar received a complete renovation.
A room was added to serve as a dining room.
A new entry was recently constructed.
Two large maps in the entry are a point of interest with names and
addresses of customers from all over the United States and many foreign
countries.
The former hayloft now serves as a unique gift shop.
We feel our barn served it’s humble purpose on the
farm, but now has an interesting, lively life providing a country atmosphere for
people to enjoy as they view antiques and interesting memorabilia.
